Sreejaya Nair is a prominent Indian classical dancer, teacher, choreographer, and the artistic director of Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance (SSCD) and SCOPAF (Sreejaya's Centre of Performing Arts and Fitness) in Bangalore, India. Born on September 7, 1977, in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam, she began her dance training at the tender age of five. She is an alumna of the esteemed Kerala Kalamandalam, where she received advanced training in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi. Sreejaya Nair also honed her skills under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarath. She currently practices the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam. Beyond her classical dance career, Sreejaya Nair also has a background in acting, having debuted in Malayalam films in 1992 with "Kamaladalam" while still studying at Kerala Kalamandalam. She appeared in numerous Malayalam films and television series throughout the 1990s and made a comeback to acting in 2014. In October 2004, Sreejaya Nair founded Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance (SSCD) in Bangalore. The institution has since grown into a major classical dance institute with five branches across Bangalore. SSCD has trained over 10,000 students from India and internationally, with alumni spread across various countries. The school is recognized by The International Dance Council (CID) UNESCO, headquartered in Paris. Sreejaya Nair also established SCOPAF, an expansion of SSCD, focusing on performing arts and fitness. She is credited with popularizing Bharatanatyam in Canada during a sabbatical between 2011 and 2012. With four decades of experience in teaching and performance, Sreejaya Nair is dedicated to propagating classical Indian dance forms.
