Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy is a distinguished Bharatanatyam choreographer, performer, and teacher, recognized for her significant contributions to Indian classical dance. Born to renowned classical dance exponents Padmabushan Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar and Jaya Chandrasekhar, she inherited a rich artistic legacy. Her mother, Jaya Chandrasekhar, also taught dance at The Vasanta College for Women and Banaras Hindu University. Chitra Dasarathy received extensive training in Bharatanatyam and holds a Masters in Performing Arts & Sanskrit Literature, a Bachelor of Music, and is also trained in Hindusthani and Rabindra Sangeeth. Based in Bangalore, India, Chitra Dasarathy is the artistic director of "Antaranga," her primary institution for dance education and promotion. She also leads the "Ameya Repertory" as its Artistic Director, a performing group that stages her conceptualized and choreographed works. Her choreographic repertoire is extensive, encompassing solos such as Geet Govindam, Chandrodaya, Dwanya, Kunti, and Sowmanasa, as well as group productions like Pachatantra Chatushra, Rati Rang, Apara, and Roots. Her work "Roots" has been performed by the Ameya Repertory at prestigious venues like the Bangalore International Centre. Chitra Dasarathy is also a recipient of the University Grants Commission research scholarship. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the fluidity of movements and a deep understanding of the art form, which she imparts to her students.
