Sridevi Ajai Thirumalai is an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, guru, choreographer, and the founder and artistic director of the Natyamani School of Dance. She began her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of five, learning under esteemed Gurus Padmini Ramachandran, Narmada, and Rhadha in India. Thirumalai has performed extensively in both India and the United States, presenting solo programs and leading dance productions. Her choreography is recognized for its pure interpretation of classical traditions and innovative elements, reflected in numerous productions she has directed, including "Siva Sakthi," "Nritya Kalai," "Natyanjali," "Om Namo Narayana," and "Kshetra." In 1992, Sridevi Thirumalai established the Natyamani School of Dance in the Greater Boston area, dedicating herself to promoting and preserving the traditional art form of Bharatanatyam. The school is known for its rigorous training and adherence to classical techniques, guiding over 40 students to complete their Arangetrams (solo dance debuts). Some sources indicate she has guided over 60 students to their Arangetrams and has had a lasting impact on close to a thousand students, instilling values of dedication, focus, and hard work. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes not only a love for the art but also the pursuit of excellence and perseverance. Thirumalai also utilizes her art to support social causes, particularly those aiding children, through various fundraising dance productions.
