Sujatha Nair Sanjay is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, performer, and teacher, known for her proficiency in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Odissi. She is the daughter and disciple of Smt. Jayashree Nair, the founder director of Upaasana Academy of Indian Classical Dances in Mumbai. Sujatha Nair Sanjay has dedicated over three decades to learning Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam under her mother's tutelage. In Bharatanatyam, she further honed her skills with esteemed gurus such as Kalaimamani Vidwan Late Kathiruvelu Pillai, Kalaimamani Guru Late Mahalingam Pillai, Guru Late Ramaswamy Bhagavathar, Padmabhushan Late Kalanidhi Narayanan, and Smt. Shobhana Bhalachandra, a senior disciple of Guru Sri Dhananjayan. For Mohiniyattam, she received training from late Kalamandalam Leelamma, Kalamandalam Kshemavathi, and Smt. Neena Prasad. Her training in Odissi has been under Smt. Debi Basu, a senior disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Additionally, she has received lessons in Kuchipudi and Kathakali. Sujatha Nair Sanjay is an "A" grade artiste of Doordarshan and a recipient of the Government of India Scholarship for Bharatanatyam. Her contributions to classical dance have been recognized with titles such as "Ranga Shree," "Nritya Shivali," and "Sri Sudarshna Natya Peravi." She has performed extensively across India and internationally at prestigious festivals including the Ananya Festival, Khajuraho Festival, Kalaghoda Festival, Mumbai Festival, Elephanta Festival, Sirpur Festival, Girnar Mahotsav, and Mudra Festival. As a dedicated educator, Sujatha Nair Sanjay has been teaching Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam at her parent institution, Upaasana Academy of Fine Arts, for over 25 years. She is also an accomplished Carnatic singer, having trained under late Guru T.R. Balamani, and performs nattuvangam for dance recitals while also conducting music classes.
