🪔 About
Yamini Kalluri is an internationally acclaimed Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and educator specializing in Kuchipudi, known for her innovative approach that bridges traditional Indian dance with Western movement practices. Born and raised in Hyderabad, India, Kalluri began her Kuchipudi training at the age of eight in 2006 under the legendary guru Padmasri Dr. Sobha Naidu, remaining under her tutelage for many years. She quickly displayed exceptional talent, beginning to perform throughout India and teach at Dr. Sobha Naidu's school at the age of twelve in 2010. In 2013, she earned a certification with distinction in Kuchipudi dance from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and further refined her style under the mentorship of renowned guru Vempati Ravi Shankar. Kalluri's artistic journey expanded significantly when she moved to New York City, where she is now based, to pursue full-time training in ballet and Graham Technique at the Martha Graham School. This cross-cultural training has enabled her to develop a unique style, creating original works that honor classical traditions while embracing contemporary artistic perspectives. She founded the Kritya Foundation in 2020, which encompasses the Kritya School of Dance, Kritya Dance Ensemble, and Kritya Music Ensemble, serving as an international platform for performance, education, and artistic innovation. Through Kritya, she mentors students across the United States, Europe, and India, and curates events like the NY Kuchipudi Dance Festival. A world-class performer, Kalluri has graced prestigious venues globally, including Davies Symphony Hall, Wolf Trap, and Jones Hall. Her pioneering work has garnered international recognition, including interviews with The New York Times and BBC Radio in 2016, where she was celebrated as one of the youngest emerging Kuchipudi artists. She has collaborated with notable artists such as A.R. Rahman on his 2026 Symphonic Tour. Kalluri is also deeply committed to music, continuing advanced training in Carnatic vocal music and mridangam, and actively developing original musical arrangements and compositions for dance productions. Her dedication to artistic excellence has been recognized with awards such as the Pandit Jasraj Scholarship and the Katta Sarojini Devi Gold Medal.
